I want offer my dialog tool for Zelda ALTTP.

It is designed to create, change and delete existing dialogs in Zelda ALTTP.

You can it use for your own projects.

To prevent overwriting issues, it has a limited area to save the text.

Download

Thanks

Thanks for this tool, from what I've seen it seems rather complete!

would you happen to have any good tutorials for the program? It seems rather complex in nature. I'm probably going to add a chapter for it in my guide, so I want it to be as accurate as possible!

Finaly i doesnt find out what the rest of the hex codes doing.

In fact i think they define different stopframes in the dialogs.

When you enter the room with the triforce or rescue the 7 maids the text scrolling slower.

Maybee Euclid or puzzeldude could say anything about it.

Following hexvalues are unknown

8A = _ in my projectfile - i think its a special space char
6D with A = Pointer to > in the game including delay
7A with A or C = Pointer to > in the game including delay
6B with C = delay hexvalue?!

88 = if you find a heart piece the tiles will shown in a center position.

80 = identified the last value in the bank 1

The tool is not so hard to understand when you only use it for dialogchanges.

Create 2 rom files. Your romfile as source and a second rom file as target and define it in the tool. You find this option when you click on the first entry on the left side. kpSource rom and kpdestination rom.

Change your dialog and press ctrl +F9. The new text will insert in the rom.
When you reach the end of the bank you got an error and the tool will show you the needed space.

Bank 1: 00E02C1-00E81FF

Bank 1 starts normaly on x0e0200 (with header) but this tex should not be overwritten.

Bank2: 0076160-00775FF

thanks

Thanks for the quick explanations, I'll try to make a good tutorial with pictures of it all!

About the text scrolling slower, when you enter the room with the triforce or rescue the 7 maids, that command must be the same as two specific Hyrule Magic monologue commands:

[ScrollSpd##]
Sets the scrolling speed and
[Speed##] Sets the text speed (0=Instantaneous).

Don't waste your time with it. HM can edit text just fine and since I don't remember this doing anything to keep you within the boundaries of the text box it doesn't have any features that make it any better. It's more trouble than it's worth. It's actually more complicated than necessary as well. Just use HM for this.

I've spent hours using the dialogue (why is it call monologue?!?) editor in HM and it's both useful and safe (minus one occasional bug that is already documented and easily fixable by changing 2 bytes).

If you use this for Zelda III you'll just have one more program to learn the ins and outs of with nothing additional to show for it.

Only use I can think of is if it can edit the text during the ending sequence (where it shows the overworld and diff character, etc.) so that it doesn't have to be done with a hex editor.

Well, you can edit the text that appears when you acquire these items with HM but the menu names and such will have to be done in hex.
